Richard F.M. Nichols
President, Managing Director and Director
President, Managing Director and Director of CDFL. Mr. Nichols is the ultimate designated person of CDFL and he supervises all functional areas of CDFL.
Mr. Nichols is a Founding Partner and President of Capital Direct Lending Corp. (CDLC) and is a director of Capital Direct I Income Trust. During his tenure, CDLC has evolved from a Vancouver-based company into an inter-provincial organization. Mr. Nichols oversaw CDLC’s expansion into new markets across Canada. He attended the University of Prince Edward Island where he studied finance and capital budgeting and received his Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA). In 1993, Mr. Nichols graduated with honors from the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program at the University of British Columbia. While completing his Masters degree, Mr. Nichols studied international marketing at the Haute Etude Commerciale in Paris, France. Mr. Nichols is an Accredited Mortgage Professional certified by the Canadian Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders (CIMBL) and the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP). He is an active member of Mortgage Brokers Association of British Columbia (MBABC), Independent Mortgage Brokers Association of Ontario (IMBA) and other provincial and national mortgage-brokering professional and trade organizations including the Vancouver Board of Trade. In the Spring of 2010, Mr. Nichols was elected to the Corus CKNW Kids’ Fund board of directors.
Derek R. Tripp
Managing Director and Director
Managing Director and Director of CDFL.
Mr. Tripp is a Founding Partner and Vice President of CDLC. Mr. Tripp brings over 25 years of financial experience to CDLC. He has underwritten over $300 million in mortgages and specializes in builder’s mortgages. During his tenure at CDLC, Mr. Tripp has been instrumental in expanding the company into new Provinces throughout Canada. Mr. Tripp studied Urban Land Economics in Real Estate at the University of British Columbia. He is an Accredited Mortgage Professional certified by the Canadian Institute of Mortgage Brokers and Lenders (CIMBL) and the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP) and is a licensed mortgage broker in BC and Alberta and a licensed mortgage agent in Ontario. He is a member of the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association (AMBA), Independent Mortgage Brokers Association of Ontario (IMBA) and other provincial and national mortgage-brokering professional and trade organizations.
Timothy P.J. Wittig
Vice President and Director
Vice President and Director of CDFL. Mr. Wittig is also a dealer representative of CDFL.
Mr. Wittig is a Partner, Vice President and Director of CDLC. Mr. Wittig joined CDLC in 2010 and brings over 25 years of business experience to the organization. He studied history and political science (Joint Honours) at both the University of Waterloo and the University of British Columbia before answering his entrepreneurial call. In 1987, Mr. Wittig and a partner founded Shaftebury Brewing Company (Shaftebury) in Vancouver. Mr. Wittig was instrumental in establishing Shaftebury as one of the most successful craft breweries in the Pacific Northwest. Mr. Wittig’s entrepreneurial spirit was recognized when he was twice nominated for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of The Year Award and when he was a recipient of Business In Vancouver’s prestigious Forty Under 40 Award. He has been an investor in private mortgages since 1998 and is a licensed mortgage broker. He is an active member of various professional organizations including the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals (CAAMP), the Mortgage Brokers Association of British Columbia (MBABC) and the Independent Mortgage Brokers Association of Ontario (IMBA).
Barbara Insley
Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Operating OfficerBarbara joined Capital Direct in 2019 bringing with her 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. She studied finance and economics at Simon Fraser University before completing her law degree at the University of British Columbia in 1993. Barbara practiced securities and corporate/commercial law in Vancouver, primarily acting for investment dealers and publicly traded issuers, until 2000, when she joined what would become TMX Group. At TMX Group, Barbara was Director of Compliance & Operations for TSX Venture Exchange. Prior to joining Capital Direct, Barbara was VP, Compliance at a large independent investment dealer. Barbara was called to the BC in 1994. In 2003 she became a CFA charter holder and in 2019, she obtained her Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) certification.
